Ashby History
Records show that the first settlers to Ashby arrived around 1867, drawn by the beautiful surroundings and abundant water and timber. Soon thereafter, the railway came and Ashby station was in business. It is believed that Ashby is either named after Gunder Ash, a farmer from Norway, or named by a railway official after a place in England.
Living in Ashby
Ashby has a thriving business district and is home to many clubs and organizations: American Legion, Lions Club, Ashby Sportsmen's Club, Living Treasures Garden Club, 4-H, and Boy and Girl Scouts. Ashby home owners are dedicated to the education of their children, evidenced by the passage of a bond referendum necessary to fund an addition to the elementary school and a remodel of the high school. The Ashby volunteer fire department was formed in 1883 and continues to protect its residents to this day.
