Battle Lake Minnesota Real Estate

As you drive into town on Lake Avenue, the welcome sign informs you that Battle Lake is the heart of lake country (1,001 lakes to be exact).  Battle Lake is located in Otter Tail county and is known as the "Little City with the Big Heart."  Its friendliness and hospitality abound from its speciality shops and art galleries to its restaurants and businesses.  Battle Lake is home to some of Otter Tail county's finest antique shops and, during the weekend, antique auctions are quite popular.  Surrounding cities, towns and communities include Clitherall, Henning, Underwood and Vining.

The Battle Lake landscape enjoys a panorama of rolling farmland dotted with bed and breakfast inns.  Tourists are drawn to this community to breathe in the fresh air the lakes and forestry afford.  The summer months are filled with water recreation and sunbathing and, when the sun sets, campfires are lit.  The fall brings a splash of wild color -- Battle Lake foliage does not disappoint!  The long months of winter are filled with ice fishing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling and sledding.

Battle Lake is home to Glendalough State Park.  Offering over nine miles of undeveloped shoreline, anglers love to fish for bass amidst the lily pads on Molly Lake.  Walleyes are also a common catch and fishermen thrive on opportunities to catch the big trophy fish.  The park also offers additional recreation such as hiking, camping, canoeing and a sandy beach for swimming.

Several golf courses grace the gentle hills of the Battle Lake area.  One of the more popular courses is Balmoral.  A Scotsman created this picturesque course in the 1800's and this mature eighteen-hole course is filled with sand traps, water hazards and some of the most beautiful scenery in this region of Minnesota.

Battle Lake real estate is always a great investment.  In addition, there are plenty of options for those looking to build their own homestead either on the waterfront or nestled in the woods.

Battle Lake Minnesota History

Battle Lake is named after a battle fought in 1795 between two indian tribes, the Ojibways and the Sioux.  The story goes that the much larger Sioux tribe was the easy victor over the group of 50 Ojibway warriors, 30 of whom were killed during the struggle.
