New York Mills Minnesota Real Estate

New York Mills, a city of approximately 1,200 people, is located along the picturesque Continental Divide in Otter Tail County.  New York Mills is situated in the heart of 10,000 lakes and is best known for hosting the yearly "Great American Think-Off" philosophy debate in its Regional Cultural Center.  This event is billed as a lively and contemporary mental engagement, and it is open to the public.  Most recently, New York Mills was recognized as the 2005 Capital Community by the Federal Home Bank, the only community chosen in Minnesota.

In 1874, the first Finnish settlers arrived with the traditions of their culture which still flourish today.  In fact, until 1985, a Finnish language newspaper was published and many in the community still speak the language.  Saunas are popular and many of the resorts and lodging facilities offer them to their customers.
